Focusing on the High-End Development of Domestically Produced Cutting Picks: China Iron & Steel Research Institute, together with a team of experts, joins hands with Xinda to explore the path toward industrial technology upgrading.

2025-09-04

On September 3, a high-level strategic seminar focused on cutting-edge industry trends and aimed at addressing core technological bottlenecks was successfully held at Zhuzhou Xinda Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Xinda Technology”).

As a central enterprise directly under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, China Iron and Steel Research Institute Group Co., Ltd. Long-term committed to undertaking major national science and technology strategic tasks, it is one of China’s most comprehensively capable research and industrialization institutions in the metallurgical industry.

In areas such as the development of new materials, metal products, and the support for high-end equipment manufacturing, China Iron and Steel Research Institute is not only an important component of the national innovation system but also shoulders the mission of leading and nurturing high-end manufacturing enterprises.

Deepen the foundation of cooperation and jointly explore new prospects for development.

The convening of this seminar stems from the excellent collaboration between Xinda Technology and China Iron & Steel Research Institute in previous projects, as well as their high recognition of Xinda’s technological strength and product quality. Based on this, China Iron and Steel Research Institute regards Xinda as a prime example of a high-quality enterprise deserving of focused support. By organizing a delegation of experts to provide on-site guidance, the institute facilitated this higher-level dialogue aimed at tackling technological challenges.

On-site inspection

The delegation was led by Mr. Zhao Lubin, Chief Strategist at the Joint Innovation Center of the Institute of Automation, and specially invited Professor Chai Guocai’s team—group experts—to provide guidance on core technologies.

Meanwhile, core technical experts—including Mr. Yang Liangtao, Deputy Director of the Technical Department at the International New Materials Innovation Center of the Institute of Steel Research, and Dr. Feng Guang—as well as key members from the Market Operations Department of the Joint Innovation Center at the Institute of Automation, all attended the event. The delegation covered multiple dimensions, including strategic planning, cutting-edge technologies, and market operations.

Before the seminar began, the delegation of experts, accompanied by our company’s representative, took a field tour of the company’s modern production line and product showroom.

The delegation visited the Xinda production line.

Xinda Machinery’s sophisticated manufacturing processes, stringent quality inspection procedures, and a series of innovative products left a deep impression on the panel of experts.

Xinda Chairman Liu Nengwen introduced to Professor Chai the failure modes of cutting picks.

Technical Seminar

At the subsequent seminar, both sides got straight to the point and engaged in an in-depth technical “consultation.” The meeting featured a candid and productive discussion centered on the most challenging issues currently facing the application of cutting picks.

① Failure Mechanism Analysis under Hard Rock Conditions

The meeting focused on the experience that Xinda has accumulated in complex operational conditions at the frontline. Tens of thousands of test data points Based on this, and in collaboration with the expert team, about... The primary failure modes of cutting picks during tunneling in hard and ultra-hard rock. (For issues such as fractures, abnormal wear, etc.) a thorough mechanistic analysis was conducted.

② Breakthrough directions for new materials and new processes
Regarding how to further enhance the balance between material toughness and wear resistance, as well as ensure consistent product quality, Building on the “ultra-wear-resistant coating for cutting picks” technology independently developed by Xinda, Professor Chai’s team shared cutting-edge international advances in materials science and process concepts, offering valuable insights for optimization.

③ Application Optimization for the Non-Coal Mining Market

Focusing on the non-coal mining market with enormous potential, the conference focused on discussing: How can we address the variable rock formations and high impact characteristics in this field by optimizing the geometric design and material selection of cutting picks? Thus, substantially reducing the customer’s overall usage costs.

It is worth noting that in this seminar, The participating parties also engaged in forward-looking discussions on collaborative support in areas such as matching market resources and investing in specialized R&D funds. This not only lays a solid technological foundation for potentially deeper cooperation between the two sides in the future, but also outlines a comprehensive strategic blueprint for holistic empowerment.

Build consensus and look forward to the future.

The reason this seminar has been able to get right to the heart of the matter and directly address the issues lies precisely in Xinda Machinery’s solid R&D foundation.

The “Cutting-Tool–Rock Coupling Numerical Simulation System,” jointly established with Central South University, provides precise simulation data support for upgrading product performance; meanwhile, As one of the drafting units of the national standard “Engineering Teeth Made of Ultra-Coarse-Grained Cemented Carbide” and the leading drafting unit of the group standard “Cutting Picks for Tunneling,” Xindate Technology has a profound understanding of the industry’s technical system. This has laid a solid foundation for this in-depth technical discussion.

This seminar represents the greatest recognition from China Iron and Steel Research Institute Group for our long-term commitment to technological innovation. Also... This marks a solid and crucial step forward in the journey of domestically produced cutting picks to align with world-class standards and compete in the global high-end market.

We will take this as an opportunity to accelerate the commercialization of our research findings, making the most thorough preparations for embracing future waves of deeper cooperation and industrial upgrading, and fulfilling our corporate commitment to "deliver on every promise."
