Pick consumption reduced by 87.5%, monthly advance increased by 50%
Category:
Mining Cutting Picks – Application Cases
Project Background
During roadway excavation at a large Alunite mine in Shaanxi, the project faced extremely hard rock conditions with a UCS of approximately 80–100 MPa.
The original cutting solution required up to 8 conical picks per meter, resulting in high tool consumption, frequent shutdowns for replacement, and a limited monthly advance of 60 meters.

Customized Solution
Xinda provided a systematic cutting solution by upgrading the cutting drum with XDS135-35 ultra-wear-resistant conical picks, specifically engineered for hard rock applications. The solution was optimized in terms of carbide grade selection, heat treatment process, and pick geometry, ensuring stable cutting performance under high-impact and high-abrasion conditions.

Performance Results
- Pick Consumption: Reduced from 8 picks/m to 1 pick/m (−87.5%)
- Operational Efficiency: Downtime significantly reduced; equipment utilization increased by 87%
- Advance Rate: Monthly advance doubled from 60 m to 120 m
